The innovative On-Line application MEDITECA, will have an important impact on how medical doctors are trained and evaluated, as well as it can be used as a consulting tool for protocol/process quality assurance. Another important feature of the medical simulator is that it can be integrated in e-learning platforms and in hospital management systems.

Alfa Multimedia is presenting at Cebit 2008 its new online Software for Clinical Simulation - MEDITECA. The application represents a relevant innovation that will have an important impact in the healthcare sector, and of most importance, within the medical community. Simulations are available in English, German and Spanish.

The company has been developing the clinical simulator for more than four years, and after doing intensive product tests and market research, taking into consideration opinion leaders, medical doctors and several medical societies, it has added important features to the simulator.

On-line Clinical simulation is an important breakthrough in the medical simulation field, where surgical simulators as well as mannequin simulation has been used for many years. Opposed to this typical simulators, where practising medical-manual techniques are their primary goal, clinical simulation is focused in performing the correct procedures in order to reach the right diagnosis and treatments. Clinical simulated cases are based on real ones, and they can be as complicated as users demand, ranging from simple medical cases, tailored to students, to the most complex cases, where all their medical knowledge is pushed to the limit. The Clinical Simulator Mediteca not only covers a wide range of pathologies in different clinical fields, such as rheumatology, cardiology, oncology, etc… but new content and cases can be easily integrated.

The big advantage of clinical simulation is that daily medical practice is performed on a virtual patient and with all the resources of an on-line real-like hospital. MEDITECA means very good news for the medical community and moreover, for patients, that will be more confident that their clinical case has been practiced and analysed before in the virtual world by the doctor, and not directly upon the patients in real life, with all the saving in costs, time and patient suffering that is implied in the real life practice.

The on-line software is user friendly and has taken into account the medical processes needed to reach a correct diagnosis. Once they have gotten all the information they need from the patient, they do the physical exploration, followed by the tests that the user believes should be performed, where they can order all the image, blood or invasive tests they need. When the users get all the information, it is time for them to diagnose what happens to the patient. Once the user chooses one diagnosis, an answer is given, but not only that, MEDITECA will tell the things the user should have done and that has not been done, as well as it analyses all the steps taken by the user, such as what have been done right, and why, and what steps have been done wrong, and why they are not right.

This is just the beginning, if you are a University, you can evaluate your students based on their use of the simulator or for example, if you are a healthcare administration, you can know if users are taking the right steps and if they are following the right protocols when making diagnosis of a certain clinical case. Morevover, if you have a hospital management system in place, you can integrate simulation features in order to guide doctors in the process of reaching the correct diagnosis, etc…

• Reumateca beneficiará el intercambio de conocimiento médico sobre la especialidad y buscará reforzar el posicionamiento de la SER en Latinoamérica


Barcelona, xx de noviembre de 2007.- La Sociedad Española de Reumatología (SER) ha anunciado la creación de Reumateca, una ambicioso proyecto que pretende convertirse en la mayor base de datos existente de casos clínicos en reumatología, que estará disponible para los usuarios antes de que acabe el mes de noviembre.

Se trata de una plataforma internacional, de acceso vía Internet, en la que los especialistas podrán ir recopilando sus conocimientos y experiencias a través de casos clínicos e imágenes, según unos requerimientos marcados por la misma plataforma, que velará por el orden y la calidad de todo lo que se vaya introduciendo. Además de los casos clínicos y de las imágenes, la aplicación cuenta con un foro donde los facultativos podrán compartir y debatir información.

La segmentación de este fondo de conocimiento, el primero de estas características, dirigido a médicos especialistas en reumatología y a la sociedad médico-científica en general, se ha realizado por áreas de interés científico y por países, lo que permitirá dirigir acciones concretas a segmentos concretos. En cuanto a las áreas temáticas, el fondo se divide en las siguientes especialidades terapéuticas: Artrosis, Osteoporosis, Artritis Reumatoide, Espondiloartropatías, Fibromialgia y Reumatismos de partes blandas, Autoinmunidad y Artritis Psoriásica.

En lo que se refiere a la segmentación por países, de momento, el proyecto Reumateca se dirigirá a los hispanohablantes, con el fin de reforzar la presencia de la SER en Latinoamérica.

Para la creación de Reumateca, la SER ha contado con la importante colaboración de Alfa Multimedia, especializada en la innovación en nuevas tecnologías de conocimiento aplicadas a la medicina, quien ha desarrollado la aplicación, y con el patrocinio de varios laboratorios, como Sanofi-Aventis, Lacer y Servier.

Según el Presidente de la SER, Dr. Josep Blanch, “el fondo tiene una proyección global a largo plazo y es una herramienta técnica de gran valía e informativa para la mejora y el intercambio del conocimiento médico”. Para Blanch, “el objetivo de Reumateca es crear una obra viva de conocimiento permanente y continuo, que pueda servir de referencia tanto a los especialistas en reumatología como a la sociedad médica en general o a la científica”.
